History of the Dental

From the Stone Age is known that people with willow sticks to clean teeth stocherten. From ancient Egyptian physicians is the first toothpaste survived (before about 4000 years), a mixture of ground pumice and wine vinegar (see also the history of toothpaste).

Even the Egyptians used a type of toothpaste, made from ground pumice and wine vinegar. Long used in human toothpowder chalk on base or flushed with mouthwash. The forerunner of toothpaste, tooth soap, has been developed in 1852. The toothpaste, as we know them, invented in 1907, but which have not yet developed the foam, which we today are accustomed to. It was filled in metal tubes with peppermint flavor. Under the name of the toothpaste Chlorodont gained world fame. Pumice powder, calcium carbonate, soap, glycerin and potassium were the active ingredients. The name is explained by the Greek "Chloros" for light-and-over fresh and "odon" for tooth.

In ancient Rome was the first mouthwash developed. It consisted of urine, which disinfected by its high ammonia content . For unclear reasons, it was imported from Portugal and was not produced in Rome directly.
